About Me
“I’m Sujan Oli, a theatre practitioner, drama educator, storyteller and creative facilitator from Nepal, currently based in Leeds, UK.
My work spans acting, directing, technical theatre and arts education. Alongside my professional theatre practice, I have taught Drama at Premier International School in Kathmandu, where I also served as Head of Arts.
My teaching experience includes IB PYP and MYP Drama, curriculum planning, assessment and directing student productions. I have worked with learners across primary and secondary year groups, supporting creative exploration, collaboration and reflective practice.
I am currently pursuing an MA in Theatre at York St John University. Through my studies and professional practice, I continue to explore how performance can create meaningful connections between people, cultures and communities.”
My Approach
“I believe that theatre and learning begin with curiosity.
My approach invites students and collaborators to ask questions, experiment with ideas and learn through making. I use storytelling, improvisation, devising and reflection to support creative expression and shared discovery.
I aim to create supportive spaces where participants feel confident to contribute, take creative risks and listen to different perspectives. I value the process of exploration alongside the final performance.
For me, theatre is a way to practise empathy, build relationships and become more attentive to the world around us.”

“Sujan Oli is currently pursuing an MA in Theatre at York St John University, UK.
He holds a Master’s degree in English Literature from Pokhara University, completed at IACER, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Mass Communication from St. Lawrence College, affiliated with Tribhuvan University.
He also holds a Diploma in Theatre from Theatre Village Nepal and has completed acting training at Actors Studio Nepal, strengthening his foundation in performance, character development and stagecraft.
His professional development includes International Baccalaureate PYP Category 1 and MYP Category 2 training. Alongside his formal education, his practice has been shaped by over a decade of experience in performance, directing, facilitation and arts education.”

“Teaching is a central part of my artistic practice. At Premier International IB Continuum School in Nepal, I taught Drama within the IB PYP and MYP frameworks and served as Head of Arts.
My responsibilities included curriculum and unit planning, independent teaching, assessment against MYP Arts Criteria A–D, and student progress reporting. I taught in English and worked with students across Grades 1–9, later focusing on Grades 6–9.
I also created and directed whole-school performances involving students from Grades 1–12, bringing together storytelling, ensemble work and collaborative production.

Production & Technical Theatre Experience
The Foundation:
My transition into professional theatre was deeply rooted in the technical craft. For over three years, I immersed myself in backstage operations, collaborating closely with leading Nepalese theatre companies, including Theatre Village Nepal, One World Theatre, Actors Studio, and Aarohan Gurukul.
Multidisciplinary Technical Roles:
Across more than 10 major productions, I developed a comprehensive, hands-on understanding of stagecraft, serving as a Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Light Operator,
and Sound Operator.
Theatre Village Residency:
For five immersive years, Theatre Village was essentially my home. Living and working within the space 24/7 gave me an invaluable, exhaustive education in the operational realities of a working theatre—deepening my understanding of both onstage performance and
backstage execution.
Looking Ahead:
My journey in theatre and education is just beginning. I aspire to pursue advanced studies in drama and education, gaining global experience and insights. My long-term vision is to bring this knowledge back to Nepal, creating creative spaces through theatre and storytelling that inspire imagination, nurture empathy, and empower future generations.
